ABOUT

You may be wondering why lookilulu’s blog is called “Jill’s Blog”?
Simple.
The opinions, views, and arguments on this blog are mine.
I’m Jill Hubbard Bowman, co-founder of lookilulu.com. I’m the main writer on this production team and I have editorial control.
JULIE’S DISCLAIMER
The posts on Jill’s Blog may or may not represent the opinions, views, or arguments of my sister and co-founder Julie Simmons. Sometimes, Julie and I disagree. And sometimes, Julie is horrified by what I say and write. We agree to disagree.
Let’s just say that Julie has a Traditional temperament (SJ). She gets along very well in traditional structures. In contrast, my Problem Solver temperament (NT) encourages me to look at the big picture and rock the boat much more about gender roles and sex equality. My personality type, ENTJ, contributes to my critical questioning nature which has made many people uncomfortable. Especially people in Utah. Especially my family.
So if you are furious or enraged by what I say on this blog, please just send the nasty emails to me and not Julie. It’s really not her fault.
Also, I can document what I say and claim. So if you want more extensive references please let me know. I’m a women’s history legal buff.
GENERAL DISCLAIMER
Further, Jill’s Blog does not necessarily represent the opinions or views of any women profiled on lookilulu.com. One of our goals on lookilulu is to gather profiles of women from diverse backgrounds. If we have succeeded in getting diversity, it is highly likely that some of the women profiled will not agree with me. We think freedom of belief is a good thing.
Occasionally, there will also be guest contributors to Jill’s Blog. Those articles will represent the views of the individual writers. Some women will get to speak their mind free of censor. And I may not agree with everything they say. Again we think freedom of belief and speech is good thing.
We believe women have a right to have a voice and speak up—even if it makes others uncomfortable. We believe dialogue and discussion are good.
Feel free to voice your own opinion and ask questions with comments, especially if you think I won’t agree with you.
I’d really love to hear from you.
The Purpose of Jill’s Blog
The purpose of this blog is to provide an educational forum about women, equality, life and law.
I’m a voracious reader on the subject of sex equality. At the University of Michigan, I did joint studies in law and Women’s Studies. At the law school, I studied sex equality with its leading legal proponent—law professor Catharine MacKinnon—the feminist jurisprudence scholar who dreamed up and realized the law of sexual harassment all the way to the US Supreme Court. Professor MacKinnon is also an internationally known scholar on human rights issues for women.
At the University of Michigan, I also taught Women and the Law to hundreds of undergraduate students. I know a lot about the history of subordination of women and their long battle to obtain equality.
One of my goals for this blog is to create a mini-women’s studies course. I’m going to write about women’s history, sex equality, the law and how it all interrelates to the types of careers that are possible for women today.
I’m also going to write about how to design a life you love and the keys to finding a career path that will help you grow and develop. I’ve studied with Dr. Martha Beck, a Harvard trained sociologist, and monthly columnist for O, the Oprah Magazine. Martha is a NY Times best-selling author of six books, including Finding Your Own North Star, a book about finding the perfect career and life path. I’m a certified Martha Beck Life Coach and I’ll be sharing some of Martha’s ideas and tools to help you find your true north and a great life.
My goal is to make this blog educational, informative and enlightening.
I believe that knowledge and critical thinking can empower girls and women.
I hope you enjoy it.
